Château de Pitray
France, Bordeaux, St Emilion

Pitray has been owned by the same family for the last six hundred years.
The present heirs, Count and Countess de Boigne, endeavour to combine family traditions and progressive solutions in order to maintain their ancestors’ heritage and pass it on to the next generation.
Their sons Nicolas and Jean de Boigne have been in charge of selling Pitray wines since 2003, as its quality is ever more acknowledged throughout the world.
As early as 1969, their grand-father, Louis de Pitray, began modernising the estate and established long-standing commercial relationships with the United Kingdom and the United States. Since then, Nicolas and Jean have opened up markets in Canada, Japan, China, Switzerland, Belgium and Denmark ….. without, of course, neglecting their private customers (including restaurants) in France. In this age of globalisation, it is rare to come across a long standing family venture which succeeds in this competitive world.
Pitray is open to all those wishing to learn more about our wine or, indeed, to enjoy the magic of this estate and stay in one of our recently renovated spacious guest rooms.
The Pitray vineyard The vineyard of Pitray is located on the clay-limestone plateau of Gardegan, just 8 km as the crow flies from Saint-Emilion’s famous steeple. The grape varieties are Merlot (75%) and Cabernet Franc (25%). Covering an area of 37 hectares (74 acres) of vines, with an average age of 29 years, Chateau de Pitray produces 240 000 bottles per year of round, supple and deliciously fruity red wine, carrying the Appellation “Côtes des Castillon”.
Unerring passion and impeccable attention to every detail are the key fundamentals for Christina Frachon, Chateau de Pitray’s estate manager. From pruning techniques, blending, and cellar maintenance to research and constant improvement through modernisation, Christina will take great pleasure in sharing her passion with you.
About the tours A guided tour of the winery, with a wine-tasting, will of course be offered to you during your stay in Pitray.
About the accommodation Beds and Breakfast Chateau de Pitray stands in the middle of an estate of more than 100 hectares (or some 200 acres) of woodlands, fields and vineyards. We welcome you in a homely setting which is both grand and peaceful.
Walks in the park, the woods, the orchard or the farm, evoke the famous 19th century novels, Les Vacances or Les Petites Filles Modèles by la Comtesse de Ségur, from whom the Pitray family descends.
Lazy mornings, walks, swimming and sun-bathing (pool: 15m. x 7 m.)naps in the shade of a century-old oak tree will bring you back to life after the strains of city life!

Driving directions Pitray is a 3 hour train journey from Paris (TGV); fifty km from Bordeaux; ten km from St Emilion and fourty-five km from Bergerac, where the Dordogne region begins.
